Napkin Design: Volume changing Earmuffs

Napkin Design: Here we post quick ideas we have for potential FREKA products in order to expand the idea of what FREKA is. These are usually made quickly and expressively and should be considered as ideas, not product concepts.

When working in cafes, open office space plans or other noisy environments it is normal to use headphones or even actively-noise-cancelling headphones.  The problem with these solutions is that to drown out the noise, we put the volume too high potentially leaving us with permanent hearing damage.

The best solution is to use industrial earmuffs since they don’t make any sounds, are inexpensive and don’t need any battery ^^. But yeah, they are mainly designed to be used in industrial areas where visibility and protection are the most important factors. But what if we would design it to be used in the office, or on the street?

First of all, we would make this earmuff more streamlined, making it smaller. Secondly, we can make it more comfortable by using lightweight materials and changing the design of the earpieces, to make them softer. Finally, since the context has changed, we might give the user to adjust how much noise may still come in. Maybe, when walking, on the street you might want to keep the noise down, but still hear something to warn you for oncoming trucks. Or you want to listen to with a coworker has to say without taking your earmuffs off and then putting them on again. The noise level can be adjusted per ear.

So, what do you think? Would you wear one in the office or on the street? Let us know!
